Marketing in the News Blog Post
I chose a recent article about Nike and how they’ve been struggling a bit lately while trying to adjust their strategy. I picked this because I’m interested in sports and business, and Nike is one of the biggest brands, so it’s interesting to see them deal with real challenges.
One of the main takeaways is that Nike has been dealing with declining sales and losing some popularity compared to newer brands. Their stock has also dropped, which shows people are starting to question their direction. Another big point is that they’ve been trying to shift their strategy, focusing more on innovation and getting back to their core sports identity, but it hasn’t fully worked yet. Competition has also increased a lot, with brands like On and Hoka gaining attention, especially with younger consumers.
Nike’s value proposition is still about more than just products. They sell performance and identity, and being connected to sports culture. That hasn’t really changed, but now other brands are starting to compete in that same space.
From a marketing perspective, this is really about repositioning. Nike has been trying to adjust how they connect with customers, especially after focusing a lot on digital. Now it feels like they’re trying to balance that with better products and stronger branding again.
The biggest challenge they’re facing is staying relevant. There are more options now, and consumer trends are changing. Nike is trying to fix that by focusing more on innovation and making changes internally, but it’s still kind of a work in progress.
I think their approach makes sense, but it also feels a little late. Other brands already started taking market share. If I were in charge, I’d focus more on connecting with younger audiences through content and athletes, while also making sure the products stand out more.
Overall, this showed me that even huge brands like Nike can struggle if they don’t keep up. Marketing isn’t just about being popular, it’s about staying relevant.
